Project Brief:
Our four-person team at Interactive Delight, has been charged with the task of exploring new interaction ideas for a crisis management system at O’Hare International Airport, Chicago.

Design Process:
We started the project by brainstorming over the three broad areas of Information, Security and Passengers. This was followed by a secondary research on the airport and crisis management systems of other airports were studied. After the user research it was found that the one thing that mattered most was Information Dissemination. This lead us to further exploring this domain. After this we brainstormed on concepts that this could be done with. The concept’s prototype was developed on Photoshop. The scenario of a emergency alert at an Airport was played out while doing the user testing of the concept and interface.

Solution:
We conceptualized a system that is capable of multi-user functionality and disseminates both general and user specific information to all travelers. Key considerations include a user-centered approach emphasizing access and ease of use while keeping the safety of travelers in mind.
A key finding from our research, was that in times of emergency, information becomes the most important thing for a traveler. And being able to communicate, is a prime requirement for them.

The solution focused on creating a multi-touch multi-user based wall, that acts as advertisement panels when there is not an emergency. In the case of an emergency, depending on the level of crisis, the walls are activated and the users are able to get information from this.
